Chelsea Hayward’18 finished third in the 200m dash at the NCAA DII outdoor track and field championships in Bradenton, Fla. in May. The sprinter posted a time of 23.72 in Saturday’s finals race, which would have been her fastest time in her career if it weren’t for her first place qualifying time in the semifinal heat at the meet where she crossed the line in a record time of 23.46!
Hayward also earned the coaches’ vote as the ECC Athlete of the Year for both indoor and outdoor track. She was the first to achieve DII All-American in track and the second in Roberts’ history. Hayward was also impressive at the NCCAA national championships where she finished first in the 100 meters (11.73 seconds) and 200 meters (23.84 seconds), setting school records in both events. She was also one of seven student-athletes from Roberts Wesleyan who made the All-Region Team. She ranked number one for the 100m and number two for the 200m events. She was also honored as an NCAA DII Academic All-American. Hayward is a nursing major and is from Litchfield, Connecticut.
