Esther Petersen Swingle ’41 passed away on April 25, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Nelson Swingle, in June of 2014. The couple married on Nov. 22, 1941. Born April 15, 1921, in Walton, N.Y., daughter of the late Walter G. Petersen and Flossie Rosa Petersen, she lived in South Canaan most of her adult life, later moving to Moscow and finally moving into Heritage Village in Gerry. She was a homemaker, raising a wonderful family in a home full of love for God and people. After her children were grown, she drove school buses part time. An active member of the South Canaan Free Methodist Church, she held many positions in that local congregation, including Sunday School teacher, youth leader and others. She attended college, graduating from the A.M. Chesbrough Seminary, now Roberts Wesleyan College, in Rochester, N.Y. Surviving are two sons, James Swingle and his wife, Sue, Spencerport, N.Y.; and Bruce Swingle and his wife, Digna, Amsterdam, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and several greatgrandchildren and greatgreatgrandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Kehm; brother and sister.
