Helen Anderson Canfield ’48, 88, of Townhouse Rd., died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at the Augusta Rehab while recovering from a serious fall. She was born on February 21, 1929 in Burlington, VT, the daughter of Carl Anderson and Helen (Hart) Anderson. She was educated in Portland, Roberts Wesleyan Jr. College, Rochester, New York, and graduated from Greenville College Cum Laude in Illinois in 1950. She married Robert Canfield August 18, 1950. Together they worked in Light and Life Children’s Home in Kansas City, Kan. She served with her husband in three pastorates in New York State before moving to Maine serving 28+ years for Gardiner. For 60+ years she was an organist and pianist in their ministry. She loved teaching children and taught kindergarten for 32 years in Richmond. She enjoyed Bible studies, nature club, and especially TOPS in Chelsea. She was predeceased by her stepmother, Dorothy (Myette) Anderson. Surviving are her husband of 67 years “Bob;” her son Daniel Canfield, daughter Debbie and husband John Hutchinson of Chelsea; grandsons Eric Hutchinson or North Carolina, and Shawn and wife Carol Hutchinson of Scarborough; great-grandchildren Dahlia and Oliver Hutchinson of Scarborough.
