Jessie E. Brown, Jr. ’10 (Master of Education) announced his retirement at the end of the 2018-2019 school year.  Dr. Brown dedicated 13 years as an Elementary School Teacher in the Rochester City School District and an Academic Coordinator for the Educational Opportunity Program at Monroe Community College for 18 years.  “I am so grateful for the students, faculty, staff, and administration at the Rochester City School District and Monroe Community College who have supported my work, collaborated with me, and partnered in co-teaching efforts, which I hope have brought honor and integrity to the learning experience of our children’s education, knowledge, and growth.  I will miss the precious relationships that were nurtured and cultivated over many years, but now it’s time for me to return to my theological studies, where it all began at St. John Fisher College, developed at Colgate Rochester Divinity/Bexley Hall/Crozer Theological Seminary, and blossomed at Boston University School of Theology.  It was at these theological institutions of learning where I gained the understanding how ancient and modern African and American Black theological scholars gave birth to our knowledge of God and the salvation of humanity.  Furthermore, I wish to continue exploring and investigating the rich historical and theological motifs of liberation in Black folk religion, how the Black Church responded to and assimilated with elements of Christian concepts, and as theologians seek to make Black religion contextual and effective today.”
