Laura Shear Dorman ’46 passed away on March 6, 2016 surrounded by her family. Laura’s life was one of love for Jesus Christ, her Savior, and service to her church and community. Teaching children to come to saving knowledge of Jesus was her passion. She taught Sunday School for 37 years, conducted Vacation Bible Schools and Good News Clubs in her home, and currently was an AWANA listener. Laura held many positions in the Middlesex Baptist Church, served on numerous committees, and hosted Bible Studies. A mission trip to a Navajo reservation was a memory she cherished. She also enjoyed sharing her home with visiting pastors and missionaries. In the community, Laura volunteered on the Middlesex Valley Volunteer Ambulance and served with the Sirenettes and helped with their monthly roast beef dinners. She was a charter member of the Middlesex Heritage Group, and enjoyed the research and shared her cookies with its members, who had become special friends. Laura also enjoyed serving her neighbors and community during her 21 years at the Middlesex Post Office. Laura will be missed by all who knew her.
Laura is survived by her four children and their spouses: Nancy (Phillip) Williams, David Dorman, Bonnie (Richard) Olswold and Melanie (Charles) Carter; and eight grandchildren: Cheryl (Greig) Holman, Kerri (Carl) Schwartz, Aaron Dorman, Adriane Dorman, Kristin (James) Owen, Ethan Olswold, Chad (Corrie) Carter and Sonya (Jerad) Flood; 15 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Helen Davis. She was also a surrogate mother to her many nieces and nephews.
