Winter 2021 Redhawks Report
Words associated with the COVID19 pandemic continue to be part of our daily lives….flexible, fluid, pivot, nimble, creative, unprecedented, physically distant, testing,….. You get the picture! The campus of Roberts Wesleyan is no different yet our coaches and staff continue to provide a competitive, transformational, and balanced athletic experience for our student-athletes, while incorporating scholarship, spiritual development, and service into everything they do.
COMPETITIVE
God continued to bless our campus with mild weather well into mid-November enabling our student-athletes to train and scrimmage right up to Thanksgiving break. Due to Monroe County and New York State COVID alerts, we were forced to revert back to online-only classes after the breakthrough December 11th.
With the hope of abbreviated seasons for all 16 varsity teams, athletics continued to work with the NCAA and East Coast Conference to plan, schedule and procedure write. Working through the myriad of state, county, conference and NCAA recommendations and mandatory protocols, changes have been put in place to ensure the safety of our campus community, visiting teams, game officials and game support staff. In mid-December with much prayer and a low positivity rate amongst students, faculty, and staff, the Roberts Restart team approved the men’s and women’s basketball and lacrosse seasons. Since Roberts will not be able to have spectators at any events, our is hope to have fans watching and cheering our athletes on via livestream.

All funds raised during the month were matched by a very generous donor and special friend of the Redhawks. Working with Golisano Children's Hospital has been a rewarding partnership that has provided our student-athletes an opportunity to give back to our community.

SPIRITUAL FORMATION
Due to pandemic related restrictions in the fall cancelling campus-wide, in-person chapel meetings, teams tailored devotional time to their individual team dynamics.
Our women's soccer varsity and JV teams met weekly to study Jon Gordon's The Carpenter workshop. Each week, they watched a short video, some supplemental digital media sports clips, and had discussions within the team. They coupled the topic each week with a Biblical example, as well as, a team sports example that we could all relate to. Other teams invited our FCA rep Adrienne Cali in to discuss topics provided by the coaches and athletes.
