Black Legacy Month Program | Office of Diversity & Equity
This year, in recognition of Black History Month, the Office of Diversity & Equity has chosen to focus on, not just history, but the growing legacy left by members of the Black community. Below, you will find a number of events that have happened or are happening as a part of our Black Legacy Month Program. We encourage you to participate and enjoy the experiences that aim to promote education, understanding, healing and progress.

February 10: Athletics Role in Diversity & Equity
Historically, athletics has played an integral role on many college campuses. Athletes and their coaches are often role models for the colleges and universities they represent. This panel discussion explores the idea of how athletic departments can leverage this influence to help solve diversity & equity issues.

February 17th: Chop it Up Discussion
For years the barbershop has served as a sanctuary for many in the Black community. The conversation can range from sports and culture to relationships and personal growth. February 19th: Young, Black & Figuring it Out Podcast
The "Young Black & Figuring it Out Podcast" is an initiative that was launched in January 2021, by two Roberts Wesleyan College Alumni (Herb Alexander & Monique Bonnett). The podcast provides an outlet and guide on the experiences of young black professionals as they navigate the intersections of personal and professional development. The episode on February 19th is sponsored by Roberts Wesleyan College and features Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Darrell Bell and Pathway to Teaching Coordinator, Holly Rushforth. February 19th, 6:00 pm: Zulu Acrobats Performance
In partnership with Nazareth College, Roberts Wesleyan will be streaming a live performance of the Zulu Acrobats. This performance will show the intersections of culture and performance art, while giving acknowledgement to the well-known Zulu people of South Africa. February 25th, 7:00 pm: Social Justice from a Hip-hop Lens
Hip-hop has long served as a method of expression for those who want to advocate for justice and equity. In this panel discussion, graduate student Isaiah Lewis, Student Multicultural Advisory Council President, Joanna Shamenda and Chief Diversity Officer, Herb Alexander - explore and discuss some of the music that pushes the idea of social justice.
