Roberts to Hold Invitational Choral Competition on Nov. 7

Roberts Chorale

The Roberts Wesleyan University Department of Music and Performing Arts will welcome over 170 high school choral students to campus on Monday, Nov. 7. Students will compete with their respective choirs in the Roberts Invitational Choral Competition.

“We are thrilled to welcome high school choirs from across the region to come together on the Roberts campus in a spirit of healthy and supportive competition to earn the distinction of Grand Champion Choir,” said Director of Choral Activities Dr. Adam Potter. “We’ve designed this event to motivate students toward excellence in their home schools and also to experience the joy of making music for those outside their local communities in an encouraging, educational, and enriching environment.”

Before competing, each choir will attend a pre-performance clinic, facilitated by Dr. Potter. After the clinic, choirs will present their stage performance for the adjudicators, who will evaluate each group and provide feedback.

The event will be judged by two guest adjudicators, Dr. Steven Hankle, Assistant Professor of Choral Music and Music Education from the University of Dayton (Ohio), and Caroyn Lokken, retired Director of Vocal Music at Grand Island Senior High School (New York).

Following the competition, students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of breakout sessions hosted by the music faculty as well as campus tours and workshops.

The event will culminate in an awards ceremony, where the competition results will be announced, and awards presented.
