The Community Institutes at Roberts to Host Virtual Panel on the Art of Essentialism

Local business leaders to discuss the mindset of doing less, but better

Leadership Breakfast Fall 2022

On Friday, Nov. 18, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., the Community Institutes at Roberts Wesleyan University will host a webinar for the greater business community on the concept of “Essentialism: Doing less, but better.” The event, which is part of the institute’s biannual leadership breakfast series, will feature a panel of local business leaders discussing the phenomenon of “quiet quitting” and strategies to engage team members who may feel overworked, overloaded or disengaged.

Essentialism, a concept first established by author Greg McKeown in the 2014 New York Timesbestseller “Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less,” isn’t a time management strategy about getting more done in less time. Rather, it’s a systematic discipline to getting the right things done and discerning what is absolutely essential to make our highest possible contribution to the things that truly matter.

The event will kick off with a panel interview moderated by Dr. Carrie Starr, executive director of the Community Institutes at Roberts Wesleyan University. Featured panelists will lead webinar participants in an engaging conversation about how to apply the art of essentialism within the workplace, including tips and best practices to equip individuals with the mindset and skills to filter out external noise and reclaim time and energy to focus on more impactful work.

Panelists include Daisy Algarin, neighborhood service centers director for the City of Rochester; Jesus Paesch, language access compliance coordinator for Monroe County; and Dr. Jillian Gilbert, associate professor of leadership and organizational psychology at Azuza Pacific University and certified LEGO Serious Play facilitator.

Tickets are free, but registration is required in advance. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions during the presentation and network during breakout sessions.
