Alumni Spotlight: Chris Sims '21 (History)
Need for Speed: From Cross Country Stand-Out to Fighter Pilot
"Chris Sims is soaring," said Executive Director of Athletic and the Voller Athletic Center, Bob Segave." We are excited for Sims becoming a Navy aviator which is a role he clearly wanted and strived for." While a student at Roberts, his goal was to get his undergraduate degree with an ultimate goal of becoming a fighter pilot. After graduating from Roberts, Sims began Navy Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island before starting flight school in Florida. He will be focusing on aviation and fighter tactics with the ultimate goal of flying an F-10.
Sims was a stand-out Cross Country runner who captured the ECC 5,000-meter run not once, but four times! In addition, he won the 3,000-meter indoor conference title twice and the 8,000 cross country championship too. “It was really important for me to be able to play a sport and have success in a sport early on, especially with running, it’s easy to see a tangible goal,” Sims said. “You’re making these incremental improvements, and you’re seeing them with a physical time. Overall, just the ability to work towards something and continually see success has helped me in my career, just know that my heartbreaks and my hard work is going towards something good, something I enjoy.”
One could say Sims is Roberts' own Top Gun!
