Redhawks Who Soar April - 2023

 

Daniel Bennett ‘02 (Music Education) is a New York jazz musician who is making joyful music for himself, his audience and God. He plays saxophone (pictured) as well as clarinet, flute and oboe. Bennett often changes instruments during performances. He recently performed original jazz compositions in the courtroom at the Old County Courthouse in Inverness on April 20. 

“I knew I loved music so deeply that I couldn’t get out,” he said. “It was a calling from the Lord. It was spiritually a calling.”

Kenneth Lee ‘90 (Business Administration) was named the Executive Director of the Greater Rochester Chapter of the American Red Cross of Western New York, which serves Allegany, Cayuga, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, Wayne and Yates Counties. “It is an honor and a great opportunity to work for an organization that has a long history of being present and helpful for humanity,” Lee said.  “I love the idea of serving and helping others, and the Red Cross is a place where I look forward to working hard to engage and connect with our community members to ensure that we have the resources necessary to respond and serve others.”

Dr. Nick Schlierf ‘92 (History) was announced as the new athletic director of North Attleborough High School and will begin his new role on July 1. Schlierf has 16 years of experience as a high school athletic director, most recently at Sharon Public School. He previously was the assistant principal of University Preparatory School and assistant principal of Our Lady of Mercy School in Rochester. Read the story.

 

Marc Natale ‘02 (Strategic Leadership, M.S.) recently started a new position as NYS Director, Customer & Community Success at Unite Us. Previously he was their State Network Director.

 

 

University of Maryland School of Nursing announced that Dr. Yvette Conyers ‘10 (Nursing Education, M.S.) will be the Associate Dean for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion with a faculty appointment as an assistant professor, Teaching Excellence tenure-track, in the Department of Family and Community Health effective June 5. James Bennefield ‘95 (Education) will be the Superintendent of Argyle Central School District, in Argyle, NY (Washington County),  effective July 1. Bennefield has spent the past 20 years at the Hudson Falls Central School District as a middle school principal and high school principal. 

“I am very excited to be joining the Argyle Central School District. The school community has been very welcoming and is full of individuals who work hard to provide the very best for the students of Argyle,” Bennefield said. “I look forward to working with all stakeholders to move the district forward and continue to build upon an already outstanding school system.” Read the story.

 

Hannah Sawicki Buffa ‘18 (Strategic Leadership, M.S.) recently started a new position as Director of Learning and Development at Buffalo Rehab Group. Previously she was a Patient Experience Liaison.
