Alumni Spotlight: Monica Lane '22 (Pathway to Teaching)
Some students show their determination, commitment and perseverance both in and out of the classroom. Monica Lane is one such student. Lane found a passion for education that compelled her to earn her teaching degree.
While working at Mary Cariola Center, a school for students with disabilities, she researched programs that she could do while working and found Roberts Wesleyan University’s Pathway to Teaching program. But with no degree and few college credits, she had a long distance to go in the pursuit of her degree.
Unfortunately, her progress was paused when she suffered a severe and sudden stroke in the final semester of her program. But Monica persevered. While she would need to delay graduation, she was not going to give up on her dream of earning her degree and becoming a teacher. She received her Pathway to Teaching degree from Roberts in 2022 and participated in commencement in May 2023.
Consistent with her commitment to learning, she is currently in the Master's in Strategic Leadership program and is on track to complete her degree in 2024. Her success story is extremely inspiring; see below for more on Monica's pathway to her degree!
