$10,000 Golden Apple Scholarships Awarded to Three Education Students

Presented by Roberts Wesleyan University, News 8 (WROC-TV), and Advantage Federal Credit Union.

Roberts Wesleyan University, News 8 (WROC-TV) and Advantage Federal Credit Union partnered to offer three $10,000 Golden Apple scholarships to aspiring teachers. The $10,000 scholarships were awarded to one undergraduate, one adult degree completion, and one graduate student enrolling in the Roberts Wesleyan University education programs this fall.

The 2023 Golden Apple Scholarship winners were announced on June 12th at the on-air End of Year Celebration for Golden Apple Teachers and Roberts Golden Apple Scholarship winners hosted by WROC.

Traditional Undergraduate: Zoey Chandler, a Childhood Education major who is graduating from Frontier High School.

She says, “This scholarship means SO much to me as a future teacher. I feel so validated in something I’ve loved for so long, and I know my hard work in high school has paid off!”

Adult Degree Completion: Christina Hartpence, Pathway to Teaching, who works as a Director of Children, Youth, and Adult Ministries at a local church. 

She says, “I am extremely honored to have been chosen for the Golden Apple Scholarship Award, a true blessing. Not only will this help me financially, but it gives me the validation that others support me in my passion. As an adult learner, I thought that going back to school would be an uphill climb. I, fortunately, have met many people along the way that have given me the inspiration to pursue my calling and have found out that it is never too late to learn.”

Graduate: Danielle “Nelly” Stevens, Masters of Education (Initial Certification), who earned her bachelor's degree from Nazareth College.

She says, “This scholarship means a lot to me. Easing the financial burden of college gives me the opportunity to pursue higher education. It also gives me the confidence to pursue teaching because I know that my school believes in me just as much as I believe in myself.”
