How To Make Friends In College

Are you wondering how you can make friends in college? That’s okay – you’re not alone.

"If you go out to be a friend, you’ll find them everywhere." (Zig Ziglar)

You might ask yourself, “Why is it hard to make friends?” If you feel that way, you're not alone. Everyone, even seniors, goes through it. The fear of the unknown, the worry about fitting in… we've all been there.

The good news is that no matter how you feel right now, those feelings don’t have to define your future friendships.

Here are three college friendship tips to making meaningful connections at Roberts Wesleyan University.

Tip 1: Attend a Campus Event

Roberts Wesleyan University hosts a range of campus events designed for you to step out of your comfort zone and connect with fellow students in a relaxed atmosphere.

Campus events could look like:

  • Watching one of our 20 NCAA DII teams play – go Redhawks!

  • The Monster Mash

  • Spring Formal

Attending any event that aligns with your interests is a low-pressure way to step out of your comfort zone and connect with like-minded students.

Tip 3: Ask For Study Buddies

Picture this. Class just finished and you’re packing your things. Turn to the person next to you and ask one simple question: “Would you like to study with me sometime?”

Chances are, they’re looking for a study buddy, too. Working on a shared task makes it easier to break the ice. Bonus – studying with friends can improve your grades! Perhaps you can start off by grabbing a latte at the on-campus Starbucks.

In Conclusion

So there you have it– three simple tips to kickstart your journey to making lifelong friends in college. You can even start with holding the door open for the next person which is a tradition at Roberts!

Your college experience is what you make of it. It’s a blank canvas. So go ahead, take a deep breath, and step into this exciting new chapter. You've got an entire campus full of friends just waiting to meet you.
