We are proud of the 21,114 living alumni who are working in the fields of healthcare, social work, business, education, criminal justice, ministry, non-profits, the technology industry and entrepreneurship – just to name a few. This month we celebrate new opportunities and awards for these alumni!
Valerie Hornberger Smith ‘77 (Nursing) is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing and the Chair of the Traditional BSN Program at Azusa Pacific University (APU). Smith achieved her MSN and PhD in Nursing at APU.
Lindsay Gubala ‘19 (Nursing, Mod RN) is the manager of the emergency department at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Gubala (BSN, RN) has been with the hospital since 2003. Read the story.
Jennifer Burdo ‘22 (Nursing, Mod RN) is the director of the 69-bed Clearview treatment services unit at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Read the story.
Beth Moore ‘88 (Elementary Education) is the Library Director of the Apollo Memorial Library in Apollo, P.A. The library also runs a food pantry program to provide fresh produce and other food items to the community. "The previous directors have done an amazing job of providing the programming that our community needs. I hope to continue this trend and make our library a hub for the community," Moore said. Jason Blackwell ‘06 (Organizational Management) is the Associate Vice President of Quality Improvement and Program Supports at Person Centered Services Care Coordination Organization, LLC in Buffalo. Blackwell started this new senior-level position in June. Previously he was the Regional Director of Care Coordination at Person Centered Services Care Coordination Organization, LLC.
Sandra Fostano ‘12 (Nursing, Mod RN) is an independent Family Nurse Practitioner at Bergen Family Medicine, effective July 2023. In addition, she is a per diem provider at WellNow Urgent Care.
Stephanie Piper ‘19 (Studio Art, Graphic Design) is a Creative Design Specialist with the DiMarco Group in Rochester. Previously she was a Freelance Graphic Designer.
Kaycee Viator ‘22 (History, Spanish) is a Graduate Assistant at Canisius University for New Griff Orientation and Sexual Violence Prevention. Viator is pursuing her M.S. in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration at Canisius.
Rebekah Distaffen ‘19 (Cross-Disciplinary Studies) will be teaching middle school science at The Charles Finney School, a private Christian school in Rochester. She will also be teaching a section of middle school bible. Distaffen is serving others as a volunteer conference director for the book of Genesis Bible quizzing. Distaffen has an M.A. in Christian Scripture from Seattle Pacific University.
Lee Ana Hess ‘16 (International Business and Spanish) started the MBA program at the University of Notre Dame this month. She shared on LinkedIn, “I’m looking forward to diving into this experience headfirst, absorbing knowledge, and collaborating with talented peers who share my passion for growth and learning.”
