Redhawks Reachout: A Lifesaving Partnership with Ugandan Water Project
On Wednesday, September 27, Roberts Wesleyan University’s Athletics went all in for global impact. Their partnership with alumni-owned Ugandan Water Project (UWP) is a remarkable display of community engagement.

“We have a strategic initiative called Redhawks Reachout where student-athletes, coaches, and administrators reach out to our community and beyond to connect our heads to our hearts and engage our hands to impact the world,” said Director of Athletics Bob Segave.
“The specific work with the Uganda Water Project is part of a year-long initiative to build at least three wells in Uganda that will provide fresh water to those communities.”
The fundraising event itself unfolded during the university's weekly chapel. As the hour drew to a close, students exhibited their generosity and commitment to the cause by collectively raising an astounding $12,283, exceeding the original goal of $10,000.
This partnership holds a special place in the university's heart, as it involves Roberts alumni, including UWP’s founder, James Harrington ‘97 (Philosophy and Religion).
This is not the first time Roberts student-athletes have helped the UWP. In the past, students volunteered their time to assemble and pack filters and participate in one-week water challenges. The week leading up to the fundraiser, students raised awareness by carrying large water bottles to draw attention to the two billion people who live in water-stressed situations.
Additionally, earlier this year, members of the Roberts community raised money by running in their 5k fundraising event.
This event stands as an excellent example of how Roberts, through the Redhawks Reachout initiative, is not only nurturing the intellectual growth of our students but also instilling in them a profound sense of responsibility and compassion for the world.
By providing clean water to communities in Uganda, Redhawks are living up to the motto of "Education for Character" and making meaningful contributions to the global community.
