Redhawks Who Soar - September 2023
We are proud of the 21,114 living alumni who are working in the fields of healthcare, social work, business, education, criminal justice, ministry, non-profits, the technology industry and entrepreneurship – just to name a few. This month we celebrate new opportunities and awards for these alumni!
Walter Nield Pettifor '57 (English & Mathematics, B.A.) published the book, Soldier Boy: One American family's journey through World War One and beyond, on August 4, 2023, about his father. It is the sequel to Pioneer Preacher, published in 2019. He also published The Genesis People in 2022. All are available on Amazon. Link to Soldier Boy on Amazon.
Samantha Ziegler-Barniak ‘19 (Communication) has been chosen as this year’s Association of Fundraising Professionals, Genessee Valley Chapter’s 2023 Emerging Fundraising Leader award. This award honors a local emerging professional fundraiser, with less than five years experience in the profession, who has demonstrated outstanding fundraising success in their career.
Their National Philanthropy Day Celebration will be held on November 14 at the Comedy at the Carlson.
William Roushey Jr. ‘80 ‘02 (Biology, B.S. & Management, M.S.) published his second book, a memoir, "When the Dogs Bark." The book spans twenty-six years of his life with his wife Patty (Pickering) Roushey ‘83 and the dogs they loved. Roushey reflects on how dogs taught him a lot about relationships. The book explores the possibility that dogs are God's special messengers sent to demonstrate what a relationship with Him could look like.
Jason Hammel ‘09 (Strategic Marketing, M.S.) was a finalist for the 2023 CXPA Awards for his work of rebuilding the Customer Experience Professionals Association network in Rochester, N.Y., and for creating opportunities for customer experience professionals to share, learn, inspire, and grow. Hammel is a Research Insights Consultant at Excellus BCBS in Rochester.
Dr. Russ White ‘85 (Biology)
Dr. Russ White ‘85 is the Chief of Surgery for the Cardiothoracic Unit at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet, Kenya. Dr. White has been at Tenwek Hospital for over 20 years working for World Gospel Mission, helping fund the cost of surgery for patients in need.
