Student Spotlight: Hannah Limpias ‘24 (Communication)
This week we are spotlighting Hannah Limpias ‘24 (Communication).
Hannah Limpias, from Baldwinsville, NY, transferred to Roberts to finish her degree as a Communication major. She was unsure about transferring to Roberts as it was a transition. But now she has a community in her major, and professors with whom she has developed relations and are helping with her academic career. Hannah is currently the intern for the Brand & Marketing Communications team and the university.
What do you see yourself doing as a career?
I’m in between Human Resources and Marketing. Human Resources was my plan when I chose to major in Communication and transferred to Roberts. However, after doing an internship for the Brand & Marketing team, I’ve enjoyed this work too.
How will your Roberts education help you reach those goals?
Roberts had taught me to push myself. When I transferred to Roberts, a lot was going on at home. I was not focused on school, and my grades reflected that. Dr. Elvera Berry (“Dr. Mrs. ") has greatly supported me. She pushed me to get my grades back up and taught me much that I can apply to my career.
When I took the Organizational Communication and Internship Seminar classes, I learned how to apply Rhetoric, the way we communicate, to the workforce.

How has Roberts impacted your spiritual journey?
Roberts has helped me finish the last details of my spiritual journey in this chapter of being a college student. The professors have taught me that God will always support me.

What is the best thing about studying your major?
The best thing about my major is meeting Dr. Berry, my advisor and Communication professor. Her teachings and support have me ready to face the world and lead. I now can say I understand the organizations I’ll be entering and am prepared to have healthy discussions.

What course (so far) has been your favorite, and what do you love most about it?
My favorite course was Communication and Gender taught by Dr. Berry. I deeply loved it as we talked about how communication and gender go hand in hand.
It also fascinated me as I had family who had lived and/or participated in many of the protests and events covered in the course. We talked about Civil Rights movements and I was able to connect a lot of what my mom grew up with. She was born in the 50’s and told me how she remembers watching the news about the Freedom Train and many other historical events. I could then connect them in class to what I was reading.

What advice would you give to incoming freshmen?
Don't wait until the last second to write a paper and stay up till 4 am before your 8 am class. Find the balance between school and social life (work, too, if you plan on working). It’s important to do your school work and important to get out of the dorm room here and there. But the most important thing is sleep!

What academic or professional accomplishments are you most proud of?
This past semester I was accepted to be an intern for the Brand and Marketing Communications team at Roberts.
I’ve enjoyed this internship and all I have learned about marketing roles and how they work together. This internship has helped me prepare for the future through its hands-on experiences - I have been in many meetings, taken photos, written stories, and wrapped candy bars for the Presidential Inauguration. I also get to see what a lot of the staff does from a digital perspective: the website, creating news, supporting events, and including student voices (like mine!) in my work.

Faculty Feedback
"Since arriving on campus, Hannah Limpias has invested in and become part of the Roberts Wesleyan University community. Whether in class and informal settings or working at Garlock, she is a welcoming presence--someone who cares about others and is happy to contribute positively to their lives. Hannah came to Roberts not only with work and educational experience but also with interests she has been able to pursue within her Communication major and media concentration. I am delighted to see ways in which Hannah is integrating the formal study and practical applications of verbal and visual Communication. The Spotlight shines on Hannah Limpias!"
