Students Share: Why I Chose Roberts
For who you are becoming and what you’ll do, is Roberts Wesleyan University the right choice for you?
To gain insights into why students choose our university, we spoke with some current undergraduates, including Nursing student Sarina who mirrored her mother’s decision to choose Roberts. Her mother is alumna Megan Schreiber Pasquantonio.
We hope these insights inspire you and your decision on where to attend this fall!
What stood out to you when you visited the campus for the first time? Was there an "aha" moment?
My “aha” moment was when I came to a spring-season volleyball game here at Roberts when I was still a senior in high school. I was able to be a part of their pre-game events and warmups, and I knew that the volleyball team was a culture I wanted to be a part of.
Sarina made an impact as a member of the volleyball team.
How did your family's experience at Roberts impact your decision to choose Roberts?
My mom played basketball and volleyball at Roberts. I knew I wanted to follow in her path and attend a Christian university while playing competitive sports. I also play volleyball and basketball just as she did.
How is your Roberts academic experience helping you to explore your program of study? What career-enhancing experiences are part of your program?
The Nursing program is preparing me for the healthcare field to be an RN. I had clinicals in the spring semester where I went to the hospital and gained real patient experiences. I also completed simulation labs where we emulated a real patient experience to better prepare students for a nursing career.
Can you share one academic quality or skill that you have developed as a result of your education so far?
I have learned how to properly manage my time and how to balance my school work with sports, friends, family, and work as a result of my education at Roberts.
Volleyball players embrace the team aspects of the game, including collaboration and teamwork, and staying active and engaged no matter their position.
Has there been a faculty member who has shepherded you or mentored you for Christian worldview integration, academic discovery, transformative learning experiences, academic standards, or character education?
There have been several nursing and science faculty members who have greatly enhanced my learning experience here including Associate Clinical Professor of Nursing, Laura Coles, Dr. Jason Taylor, Assistant Professor of Chemistry Courtney Fantauzzo, and Associate Professor of Nursing Dr. Robert Dorman all impacted my academic experience and Christian worldview.
