Faculty to Serve on Committees for NYSED
Associate Professor of Education and Director of Literacy MEd program Dr. Elizabeth Stevens has been invited to join the Educator Preparation Working Group as part of The New York State Path Forward initiative. This work, spearheaded by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and the Literacy Academy Collective, is supported by The Hunt Institute’s Path Forward initiative.
Why this work matters:
• equitable educational opportunities for all students in the state
• educators in New York State equipped with the skills to teach literacy effectively
• a commitment to science-based reading and evidence-backed teaching methods for literacy
• a focus on impactful learning from early childhood through higher education
The goal is for work groups to collaborate with the Leadership Team and Steering Committee to formulate an action plan to integrate the science of reading into educator preparation. This work will help our state ensure that all students become proficient readers and help shape the future of literacy instruction in New York State.
Associate Professor and Chair of Teacher Education Dr. Katie Heath was appointed into public office as a representative on the New York State Early Intervention Coordinating Council as a parent representative.
She will be part of the 30-member Council that assists the New York State Department of Health (Department) with the administration of the Early Intervention Program and makes recommendations to the Department regarding appropriate services for infants and toddlers with disabilities and their families.
