Thomas E. Haschmann ’70 passed away on December 31, 2016. Survived by wife of 45 years Barbara Pilato Haschmann; children James (Diane Sayre) Haschmann, Amy Joy (Miguel) Ortiz, Matthew Haschmann, Jeffrey (Melody Ossola) Haschmann. Grandchildren Charlotte, Sarah, Peter and Otis James Haschmann; Kati, Lina, and Angel Ortiz. Siblings Terry (Marianne) Haschmann, Laurie (Rick) Kincaid, Todd Haschmann. Aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, god children and many dear friends. Predeceased by parents Edwin and Myrtle Haschmann and infant daughter Erin Elizabeth Haschmann. Tom worked in the field of addiction treatment and prevention for 45+ years, first helping to start the local Teen Challenge and most recently retiring as Regional Coordinator of NYS OASAS Finger Lakes Region. After retirement Tom was involved in direct counseling; and as friend and informal advisor to the local director of the Ugandan Water Project. He was a graduate of Gates-Chili High School and Roberts Wesleyan College. Tom loved singing and playing guitar, fishing, and helping people connect with solutions and each other. Tom was awarded “Most Honored Brother” Phi Beta Delta Fraternity, 1966; “Outstanding Friend of Labor” United Way of Greater Rochester and AFL-CIO Rochester Labor Council 1987; and the First Annual Charles Cuminale Award for Services to Youth, 2002. His hope, joy, wisdom, and love will be sorely missed by many.
