SPECIFICS OF THE MATHEMATICS B.A. DEGREE

Minimum Total Hours: 124

Total Liberal Arts Hours Required: 90

General Education Requirements: Per General Education list (see General Education Division). Exceptions:  the lab science and mathematics proficiency requirements are met through the major.

Minimum Requirements: Overall and major GPA of 2.0; no grade less than C- in the major.

Transfer Requirements: See institutional transfer policies .

Application to the Major: Standard institutional major application should be submitted at the end of the sophomore year.  A minimum overall GPA of 2.0 is required for acceptance to the major.

Major Requirements: 43 hours with a minimum of 31 hours in mathematics as follows:

  • 19 hours of required mathematics courses: MTH 270, 281, 282, 283, 302, 490;
  • 12 hours of mathematics electives 200-level or above, excluding MTH 260-269;
  • 4 hours of computer programming: CSC 140;
  • 8 hours of science courses in one discipline: BIO 101 & 102 with labs; CHM 111 & 112 with labs; PHY 101 & 102 or 201 and 202.

  • 19 hours of required mathematics courses: MTH 270, 281, 282, 283, 302, 490;
  • 15 hours of mathematics electives 300-level or above;
  • 3 hours of Real Analysis or Higher Algebra (MTH 403 or 401);
  • 4 hours of computer science (CSC 140);
  • 12 hours of science: PHY 201, 202, and 203.

 

SPECIFICS OF THE MATHEMATICS (APPLIED CONCENTRATION) B.S. DEGREE

Minimum Total Hours: 124

Total Liberal Arts Hours Required: 60

Minimum Requirements: Overall and major GPA of 2.0; no grade less than C- in the major.

  • 16 hours of supporting courses: CSC 140, PHY 201, 202, and 203.
