Total Liberal Arts Hours Required: 60
General Education Requirements: Per General Education list (see General Education Division). Exceptions: only one fine arts course is required (ART 101, MUS 104, OR FNA 102); must take PSY 101 for the behavioral science requirement; must take SOC 101 for the history, economics, or social sciences elective; the lab science requirement is met through the major; students must take the Nursing version of PHL 202.
Minimum Requirements: Minimum GPA of 2.5 in science and NSG courses and overall for acceptance into the Nursing major; students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.25 in all NSG courses and a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 to remain in the major; students must have an overall GPA of 2.5 and a major GPA of 2.25 to graduate; minimum grade of C in all NSG courses and in BIO 201, BIO 201 lab, BIO 202, BIO 202 lab; no grade less than C- in the remaining courses required for the major.
Transfer Requirements: Transfer students seeking junior year status should obtain information about the summer transfer program (consisting of NSG 101 during summer school, NSG 203 beginning in late July and NSG 102 and NSG 207 concurrent with spring junior year courses). To be eligible for this program, the transfer student must have completed the Nutrition, Developmental Psychology, Microbiology, Chemistry, and Anatomy and Physiology requirements.
Application to the Major: Special application form to be secured from the Division of Nursing and submitted by the end of the first semester of the sophomore year. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in NSG and science courses and overall in order to be accepted. Receiving less than C in two upper-division or clinical courses removes a student from the major.
Major Requirements: 79 hours including 56 hours of required Nursing courses
- Two freshmen-level nursing courses: NSG 101, 102;
- Three sophomore-level nursing courses: NSG 202, 203, 207;
- Seven junior-level nursing courses: NSG 301, 302, 303, 312, 313, 314, 319;
- Seven senior-level nursing courses: NSG 402, 403A, 403B, 404, 405, 412, 450;
- At least one nursing elective: NSG 350, 360, 370, 380, 408, 470;
- Developmental Psychology (across the lifespan): PSY 201;
- Science courses as follows: BIO 101, 101 lab, 201, 201 lab, 202, 202 lab, 301, 301 lab, CHM 114. BCH 100 will be required if no previous chemistry or biology course or if poor performance in high school chemistry or biology.
