Health Center
Health Safeguards
The Health Center provides high quality primary care services to enrolled full-time undergraduate students to minimize the academic interruptions that students may experience from an illness or injury. We strive through personalized evaluation, treatment and health education to teach students to make positive, long lasting lifestyle choices.
The Health Center is presently staffed with a collaborating physician, physician assistants, and a coordinator. The Health Center is located on the second floor in the Voller Athletic Cneter. Office hours are Monday through Friday between 8am - 5pm. Scheduling an appoinment can be done by contacting the Health Center at 585-594-6360 or by email at healthcenter@roberts.edu. Appointments are frequently made on a same-day basis.
When the Health Center is closed, an ill or injured resident student should contact a Resident Advisor, Resident Director, or Campus Security for assistance. In any life-threatening situation, a student should call 911 and then notify Campus Security.
General Precautions
The College reserves the right to take appropriate action consistent with school policy regarding particular physical or mental health situations. In the interest of the wellness of the general student body, students may be required to return to their homes or to enter a local hospital due to public health and community well-being concerns.
Medical Insurance
On March 16, 2012, the Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) announced regulations with regard to student health insurance. The new regulations require any entity that offers health insurance to their students to meet or exceed set government limits. Unfortunately, we have no control over the regulations from the government and requirements from the insurance company. Threfore, we are no longer able to offer a student health insurance policy lower than the government regulations. Roberts Wesleyan College feels it is important that all students have access to health insurance to cover any possible accident, illness or surgical needs at all times while on campus.
Medical Insurance - International Students
All international students need to secure their health insturance prior to arrival on campus. If parents cannot cover the student on their own plans, the student will need to seek coverage through their own employment or through a private carrier. Students will need to provide proof of coverage from the insturance company either by producing an ID card with their name on it or a letter of credible coverage showing the student's coverage period. We ask for all international students to verify their specific coverage and limits to make sure their coverage will be applicable during their stay in the United States.
Medical Insurance - Athletes
All athletes who participate in inter-collegiate sports are required to have health insurance coverage prior to arrival on campus. If parents cannot cover the student on their own plans, the student will have to seek coverage through their own employment, through a private carrier, or if eligible, through Medicaid. Athletes must provide proof of coverage from the insurance company by producing either an ID card with their name on it, a letter of credible coverage showing the student's coverage period, or a Medicaid card with their name on it before they can enter a practice field. We ask for all athletes to verify their specific coverage and limits prior to beginning practice with their teams.
Immunization Requirements
All students enrolled for six or more credit hours per semester at post-secondary institutions are mandated to comply with the New York State Public Health Laws 2164 and 2167, immunization regulations. An offical copy of an immunization record from a medical provider, previous school, employer, or the military are acceptable. Immunization documents must be on file in the Health Center before the start of classes. Please be aware that all New York State educational institutions are required to excluede non-compliant students from the premises. Violations of NYS PHL 2165 and 2167 may result in the imposition of a penalty of up to $2,000 per student.
Contagious Diseases
In cases of acute contagious disease, the resident student is immediately removed from college housing, in consultation with the student’s parents or guardians. In such cases, all expenses are the responsibility of the student and his or her family, unless covered by insurance.
Accidents and Emergencies
In any instance of accident or emergency when the College sends a student to a hospital or arranges for the services of a surgeon or a specialist, the College is acting temporarily in place of the parents and assumes no responsibility for the expense incurred.
