Health Center

Health Center Overview

The Health Center professional staff provide a high-quality standard level of medical care for full-time traditional undergraduate students to minimize the academic interruptions students may experience from an illness or injury. We promote physical and mental well-being through personalized treatment of common, acute, and chronic health conditions; wellness teaching; and prevention instruction to assist students in making positive, long-lasting lifestyle choices.

The Health Center is located in the Voller Athletic Center on the second floor. Administrative hours are Monday through Friday between 8am-5pm. To schedule an appointment, contact the Health Center at 585-594-6360 or by email at healthcenter@roberts.edu.  Same day scheduling is available. Walk-ins are welcome and will be accommodated if possible.

When the Health Center is closed, an ill or injured resident student is asked to contact a Resident Advisor, Resident Director, or Campus Security for assistance. In any life-threatening situation, a student should call 911 and notify Campus Security.

General Precautions

The College reserves the right to take appropriate action consistent with school policy regarding particular physical or mental health situations. In the interest of the wellness of the general student body, students may be required to return to their homes or to enter a local hospital due to public health and community well-being concerns.

Medical Insurance

With the passing of the Affordable Healthcare Act, citizens are now required to obtain some form of health insurance. Roberts Wesleyan College mandates that international students and student-athletes, as well as any students participating in college-sponsored overnight or missions trips, provide proof of medical health insurance coverage such as an ID card with their name on it or a letter of credible coverage of insurance with start and expiration date. Whether you are required to have insurance or not, Roberts Wesleyan College strongly suggests that all students carry health insurance.

Medical Insurance - International Students

All international students must secure their health insurance coverage before their arrival on campus. If parents cannot cover the student on their plans, the student will need to seek coverage through his or her employment or a private carrier. Students are required to provide proof of coverage from the insurance company either by producing an ID card with the student's name on it or a letter of credible coverage with start and expiration date. We ask for all international students to verify specific coverage and limits to make sure their coverage will be applicable during their stay in the United States.

Medical Insurance - Athletes

All athletes who participate in intercollegiate sports are required to secure insurance coverage before arrival on campus. If parents cannot cover the student on their plans, the student will have to seek coverage through his or her employment, through a private carrier, or if eligible, through Medicaid. Athletes must provide proof of accident/injury coverage from the insurance company by producing either an ID card with the student's name on it, a letter of credible coverage with start and expiration date, or a Medicaid card with the student's name on it before the student can enter a practice field. We ask for all athletes to verify their accident/injury coverage and limits before beginning practice with their teams.

Immunization mandates for attendance

New York State Public Health Laws 2164 and 2167 mandate all students attending New York State educational institutions taking six credit hours or more provide evidence of protection against specific disease. Immunization documents must be on file in the Health Center before the start of classes. An official copy of an immunization record from a medical provider, previous school, college, employer, or the military is acceptable. Please be aware that all New York State educational institutions are required to exclude non-compliant students from the premises. Violations of NYS PHL 2165 and 2167 may result in the imposition of a penalty of up to $2,000 per student.

Contagious Diseases

In cases of an acute contagious disease, the resident student is immediately removed from college housing, in consultation with the student’s parents or guardians. In such cases, all expenses are the responsibility of the student and his or her family.

Accidents and Emergencies

In any instance of accident or emergency when the College sends a student to a hospital or arranges for the services of a surgeon or a specialist, the College is acting temporarily in place of the parents and assumes no responsibility for the expense incurred.
