Studio Art, B.A., B.S.
[Studio Art—1002]
Studio Art majors may select either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree. The Bachelor of Arts degree is for those students who wish to take a broad or more liberal base of courses, while the Bachelor of Science degree represents extensive work in a studio discipline.
Students choose an area of concentration/focus in 2D (drawing, painting & printmaking), 3D (ceramics & sculpture), Graphic Design, Photography or Video (digital media art).
The Studio Art major provides a strong first-year Foundations Program, including courses in art and design seminar (ART 100), drawing (ART 102), 2D design (ART 103), 3D design (ART 104), and digital media art (ART 105).
After the first year, students begin work in their chosen concentration along with elective studio courses. Also, students study art history, theory, and criticism.
The program of study culminates with either a Capstone Exhibition or Portfolio, Internship, or both. The Capstone is an individually completed year-long faculty-mentored project in which students select and produce a body of work in art or design and prepare that work for exhibition or production.
