2024-25 Undergraduate Academic Catalog | School of Arts and Humanities | Religion and Philosophy | Majors

3 + 2 Programs

Program Description

The 3+2 program allows students to complete both a B.A. at Roberts Wesleyan College and an M.Div. degree at Northeastern Seminary together in a total of five years.  For any student who intends to go to seminary, this program provides a streamlined option that shaves off two years of time and expense in preparation for ministry.

Students complete 92 credit hours at Roberts in the first three years of the program, followed by two years at Northeastern Seminary, where students complete 62 credit hours.  At the end of the fourth year within this process, students transfer 32 credits from Northeastern Seminary back to Roberts to complete their undergraduate program, at which point the B.A. degree is conferred by Roberts.  The M.Div. degree is conferred by Northeastern Seminary at the end of the fifth year of study once the full 62 credit hours have been obtained.

Requirements

During the first three years of the program, students complete their General Education requirements, the requirements for their major, and enough general electives to complete 92 credit hours of undergraduate work.  The student may choose to major in Philosophy-Religion, Biblical Studies, or Ministry, all of which are 43 credit hour majors.  Among their major courses, students will earn 18 credit hours of Advanced Standing credit granted toward the Northeastern M.Div. degree.  The courses that may be processed for Advanced Standing credit include:

  • THEO 2000 (3 credits of Advanced Standing at NES)
  • 3000/4000-level Old Testament major course (3 credits of Advanced Standing at NES)
  • 3000/4000-level New Testament major course (3 credits of Advanced Standing at NES)
  • Two or three 3000/4000-level major courses of the student's choosing (6 or 9 credits of Advanced Standing at NES)
  • Two Biblical languages courses (same language) (3 credits of Advanced Standing at NES)

In order to earn this Advanced Standing, students will complete an additional graduate-level assignment in these courses, with the exception of the Biblical languages course.  Advanced Standing exams will be administered by Northeastern Seminary for late-deciding students who did not complete the graduate-level elements when taking the undergraduate courses.

Students must apply for Northeastern Seminary admission during the junior year at Roberts.  Once accepted, the student completes their studies at the seminary over the course of the remaining two years in the program with a focus upon graduate-level Ministry coursework.
