Studio Art, B.A., B.S.
[Studio Art—1002]
Studio Art majors (including photography and graphic design) may select either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree. The Bachelor of Arts degree encourages a more liberal base of courses, while the Bachelor of Science degree prioritizes extensive work in a studio discipline.
Students choose an area of concentration/focus in Studio (2D/3D), Graphic Design, Photography or Video (digital media art).
The Studio Art major provides a strong first-year Foundations Program, including courses in art and design seminar (ARTS 1000), Ways of Seeing (ARTS 2010), drawing (ARTS 1020), studio foundation (ARTS 1040), and digital media art (ARTS 1050).
After the first year, students begin work in their concentration along with elective studio courses accompanied by integrative study in art history, theory, and criticism.
The program of study culminates with a Capstone experience. The Capstone is an individually completed year-long faculty-mentored project in which students produce a body of work in art or design, prepare that work for exhibition or production, and develop a professional portfolio with their specific concentration.
