SPECIFICS OF THE EXERCISE SCIENCE B.S. DEGREE
The Bachelor of Science degree program is recommended for students pursuing careers involving the application of exercise physiology to fitness instruction and programming. A strong foundation in academic coursework in the sciences is combined with the use of modern exercise physiology laboratory equipment and internship experiences to prepare graduates for work in health and fitness facilities, corporate fitness programs, and medical fitness or rehabilitation programs. Students are prepared to obtain professional certification from recognized organizations such as the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Council on Exercise, and the American Academy of Health and Fitness Professionals, which are credentials increasingly required for fitness work involving healthy and patient populations in fitness, sports, and clinical settings.
Students may also choose this major as core foundational coursework leading to graduate or health professional program work in athletic training, sports psychology, physical therapy, athletic administration, physician assistant, and medicine.
